Antonín Blažek
Blažek initially attended the Vocational Woodworking School in Valašské Meziříčí, followed by the Czech state technical school in Brno and, after 1898, the School of Applied Arts in Prague, where he studied under architect Friedrich Ohmann. In 1890 he moved to Vienna to continue his studies at the local academy under the guidance of the historicist architect Viktor Lutz. After this, he worked with the builder Antonín Müller in Brno. An early project for Müller was the 1903 ensemble consisting of several apartment buildings and the Slavia Hotel, which shows the stylistic influence of the Vienna Secession. In 1905, he set up a drafting studio in Královo Pole, where he designed a number of private and public buildings in Brno and in several towns in Moravian Slovakia, most of them in the spirit of late historicism. He was also a founding member of the Association of Moravian Fine Artists.
