Alexandr Wielemans von Monteforte

Architect

After graduating from Vienna’s Technical University, Monteforte attended the Vienna Academy in 1865–1868, where he studied under professors Eduard van der Nüll, August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Friedrich von Schmidt, in whose studio he worked until 1874. He opened his own studio in 1875, where he designed a number of private buildings, although his main focus was on showcase public buildings. Examples include palaces of justice in Vienna (1881), Graz (1889–1893), Olomouc (1886–1902), Salzburg (1903–1909) and Brno (1906–1909), a town hall in Graz and religious buildings in Vienna’s Josefstadt and Ottakring neighbourhoods.
