Heinrich Karl Ried

Architect

After completing state technical school in Vienna, Ried attended the city’s Academy of Fine Arts (1902–1904), where he studied under professors Viktor Luntz, Alfred Castelliz and Friedrich Ohmann, in whose studio he was subsequently employed. In 1905 he received a state scholarship, the so-called Rome Prize, which enabled him to study in Italy, Greece and Spain. He subsequently entered a number of competitions. His 1909 design for the House of Artists in Brno was a great success and launched his independent career as an architect. After serving in the First World War, he participated in the building projects of ‘Red Vienna’, and he similarly helped build housing in Vienna after the Second World War.
