Zikmund Kerekes

Zikmund Kerekes, an architect of Jewish origin, was born in Budapest on 17 December 1897. He was admitted to the German Technical University in Brno in 1920. After graduation he worked as a trainee in Jindřich Kumpošt's design studio and later moved to Wiesner's office. At the end of the 1920s he designed an extensive building situated on the corner of Černopolní and Durďákova streets. He set up his own studio around 1930 and designed the Bass Villa and Morgenstern Villa in Lipová Street. Fearing the growing influence of Nazi Germany, he emigrated before the outbreak of WWII, probably to his native Hungary. Then, around 1948, he left to Israel and assumed the name of Hiram Asher. His further fate is unknown.
