Otakar Oplatek

Architect

Otakar Oplatek, architect and town planner, was born in Brno on 20 March 1907. In 1924-30 he studied at the Czech University of Technology in Brno. He worked in Jindřich Kumpošt's design studio for five years beginning in 1934. He cooperated with Josef Polášek and Heinrich Blum on the First Moravian Savings Bank building in Jánská Street in Brno. In 1939 he was appointed head of the area planning department of the Provincial Office, where he remained until the end of the 1950s. In 1958 he became the chief architect in the newly formed Regional Design Office (Stavoprojekt) and participated in designing Janáček Theatre. He retired in 1975 and died on 2 June 1985.
