Bohunice 1946–1989

2,9 KM

The Bohunice trail is divided thematically into three parts. The first is the large residential complex of Bohunice Housing Estate, which took eighteen years to build. It was constructed in the period of normalization, with all the problems associated with that era, especially delays in the construction of civic amenities and the cultivation of public spaces. The second part of the trail takes us to the University Hospital Bohunice, which plans were already being made for in the interwar period. After the war, Bedřich Rozehnal, an architect who had international experience specializing in hospital buildings, worked intensively on the designs. The large hospital complex was not built until the end of the 1960s, on the basis of a design by Miroslav Spurný, and its main building would become a new Brno landmark. The complex also included accommodation for medical staff on Netroufalky street, which is where the trail leads. Along the way, you will pass Bohunice University Campus, on which work started in 2004 to a design by the Brno architectural studio A PLUS. It was a project that the architect Jan Dvořák had been pondering since the 1960s.
